Is This Course For Me?
If you're a regular indoor wall climber and would like to learn the 'trad' climbing skills and techniques to climb outdoors safely, then a day or two with ISM will give you a great start towards making that transition to becoming an independent trad rock climber. The two days here in the Lake District would be focused on developing the more advanced skills of using traditional gear to safegaurd a lead climber, setting up secure natural belays, rescue techniques, abseilling and general crag safety and environment around you.
Transitioning from Indoor Wall Climbing
Skills covered on the course include:
- A refresh of your basic indoor climbing skills and the level of your ability
- Preparation of equipment, traditional gear and rope choice
- Safe leading practises
- Using the full range of natural protection

- Setting up anchors and safe belaying techniques
- Abseiling and retreating from a crag
- Avoiding potential problems (such as rope jams, protection falling out)
